Connecting
Section titled “Connecting”Use a Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later, and an iPad with iPadOS 17 or later. Turn on Screen Sharing in System Settings → General → Sharing on the Mac, add the Mac in Screenbay, and sign in with a Mac account that is allowed to share its screen. Getting started has every step.
If it does not connect, check that the Mac is awake and reachable, Screen Sharing is on, and no other viewer is controlling the screen. For a first connection, try the same local network. Away from home, set up a private network first (away from home). Getting started → If it does not connect covers each error message.
Buy, Restore Or Redeem A Code
Section titled “Buy, Restore Or Redeem A Code”Screenbay is free to use with unlimited Macs. Until you buy, a reminder appears every 30 minutes of session time; Continue closes it and your session keeps running.
- Buy: tap Buy Screenbay in the Library, or Buy in the reminder. Apple processes the payment.
- Redeem an offer code: open Buy Screenbay in the Library, choose Redeem Offer Code and complete Apple’s redemption sheet. Installing the app alone does not redeem a code.
- Restore: if the reminder still appears after buying, use Restore Purchases with the Apple Account that made the purchase.
Refunds are handled by Apple: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Switching Apps
Section titled “Switching Apps”Screenbay tries to keep a connection for up to 20 seconds while it is in the background; iPadOS can end that time sooner. A longer absence closes the session, and returning reconnects automatically. Choosing Disconnect stops the automatic reconnect.
What To Include In A Request
Section titled “What To Include In A Request”- Your iPad model and iPadOS version.
- Your Mac model and macOS version.
- How the iPad reaches the Mac: home network, or a private network such as Tailscale.
- What you expected, what happened, and the message Screenbay showed, if any.
Screenshots help, but check them first: a screenshot of a session shows whatever was on the Mac’s screen. Never send your Mac’s password; we will never ask for it.
